'Dry rot' MP overpaid for mattress and gardening costs
Disgraced Luton South MP Margaret Moran has been handed a £4,059.86 repayment bill following an audit of MP's expenses.

According to an audit of MP's claims since 2004 carried out by Sir Thomas Legg, Ms Moran was over-paid a total of £109.59 for mortgage interest between 2006 and 2007.

She was also paid a net total of £527.20 twice between 2005 and 2006 for a mattress and a total of £3,140.42 in March and April 2007 for gardening costs, exceeding the allowable maximum by a total of £1,140.42.

She was further paid £2,282.65 for repairs to her home after a front room ceiling collapse in April 2007. Ms Moran's home insurance should have covered a large amount of the cost but her policy had lapsed two months earlier.

Ms Moran, who has already announced that she will stand down at the forthcoming general election, is thought to have already paid back a substantial amount of a £22,500 dry rot claim for her partner's home, and that is thought to have been excluded from the review.
