Barnfield West principal is on the move

The principal and deputy principal of Luton's Barnfield West Academy are leaving to head up schools in Norfolk.

Principal Rachel de Souza and vice principal Nicole McCartney will head up two new academies in the towns of Costessey and Gorleston respectively.

Barnfield West's fortunes have changed dramatically since Ms de Souza took the reigns in 2007.

It was named as the most improved school and academy in the UK by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust after 100 per cent of students achieved five or more A* to C grades in their GCSEs last year. The number of students achieving five A* toC with English and maths tripled.

Ms de Souza will also be executive director of the Gorleston academy and another in Peterborough.

The advertised salary for each role was £100,000 to £110,000.
