Bedford Blues have announced that Andy Irvine has been appointed as the club's new chief executive.
Irvine, who has been commercial manager since 2005, now takes over the day-to-day running of the club. He said: "I am delighted the board have shown such faith in me,

"I will do my best to build on the success of the past few seasons, as we look to continue the growth of the Bedford Blues."

Chairman Geoff Irvine said: "Andy has done a wonderful job promoting the club in his role as Commercial Manager.

"He has done that job since 2005 and I think that it is fair to say that he has served his apprenticeship very well.

"Having retired a couple of years ago I have been looking to take a step back and I, and the board, feel that Andy has worked hard and deserves this opportunity.

"Everyone wishes him the best of luck in his new role."
