Wins too for Waders, United, Reds and Potton on Saturday
A Paul Barnes double gave Arlesey Town a 2-1 win against basement side
Wivenhoe on Saturday but the Blues squandered a host of chances in front of goal and survived a late scare when Ben Lawson netted what turned out to be an 87th minute consolation.
Biggleswade Town continued their fine current form with a 2-0 win at the
Grass Roots Stadium in the Premier Division of the Spartan South Midlands League and in so doing, inflicted the first home defeat of the season on hosts Tring Athletic.
Ben Heron scored the opener from the penalty spot while strike-partner Jamie Steele netted the second following good work by Jack Weeden, the Town going on to miss a host of chances as they dominated proceedings.
And there was a change in fortune for Biggleswade United who beat
fifth-in-the-table Beaconsfield SYCOB 1-0 thanks to a tremendous angled 18th minute Robbie O'Dell strike.
However it was 'backs to the wall' defending for the remainder of the match at Beaconsfield pile on the pressure with United hanging on thanks to man of the match Jay Tingey, the game being weatched by North
East Beds MP Alistair Burt and his wife who spent the afternoon at Second Meadow to officially launch the club's new mybufc.com website.
There was also plenty to celebrate at Forde Park where Langford beat former league leaders Harefield United 1-0 thanks to a 63rd minute goal from GaryWalker.
And at Stony Stratford's Ostlers Lane, Arlesey Athletic were enjoying their second successive league win as they beat their hosts 4-2 with goals from Adam Furness (two), Terry Lock and Wayne Blows.
In the United Counties League, Potton United claimed the points with a 3-2 win on Bourne's Abbey Lawn with goals from Mickey O'Farrell (two) and Shiblu Miah.
Having taken a 2-0 half time lead, within eight minute of the second period starting, the Wakes had drawn level but O'Farrell notched the winner in the 59th minute.
Stotfold's season has taken something of a battering in the past few games after such a promising start. On Saturday they lost 3-1 at home to Boston who themselves had just undergone a lean spell in terms of results.
Garath Pritchard gave the Poachers an eighth minute lead only for Paul
Garrett to miss a penalty. After that Stotfold's Mark Bryant and Boston's Ollie Pinner were red carded while Paul Goodhand doubled the visitors lead on the stroke of half time.
And Boston were home and dry in the 67th minute when defender Neal Spafford scored a third, substitute Bobby Dance finally netting a last minute consolation for the hosts.
