Saturday action: Arlesey lose, Biggleswade Town and United through in Vase, Potton and Stotfold crash out
Arlesey Town bowed out of this season's FA Trophy at the first hurdle at Moatside on Saturday, having travelled to Surrey to play Merstham in the preliminary round.

They went a goal down on 16 minutes when Kwabena Agyei got in to beat keeper Martin Peat while the hosts' Michael Morgan added a second early in the new half.

And it was Agyei again on 72 minutes with Morgan getting his second for 4-0 four minutes later before the Blues pulled one back from the penlty spot courtesy of Lee Allen.

In the FA Vase, Biggleswade Town sailed safely through to the second round with a comfortable 2-0 win against a mediocre Berkhamsted Town outfit.

Ryan Redford gave the Waders a 12th minute lead while a fabulous 35 yard Daniel Flack free kick gave Sam Styles in the visitors goal no chance with a killer second 15 minutes from time.

And it was cheers all round at Second Meadow where Biggleswade United breezed past UCL Premier side Desborough Town 3-0 with goals from Jason Darvall. Jake Goodship and Sean Murray.

Also in FA Vase action were Potton United who hosted Wivenhoe Town at The Hollow and Stotfold who travelled to play unbeaten table-toppers Basildon United from the Essex Senior Premier League.

Potton went down 3-1 to the Ridgeons Premier Division outfit while reigning UCL champions Stotfold disappointingly crashed out 4-1.

Basildon took a third minute lead through Ricky Lee while Dave King scored a second before the break. Then a Richard Robinson double sealed the tie before Scott Rennie netted an 86th minute consolation for the Rokermen.

At The Hollow John Sargent gave Wivenhoe a 26th minute lead with Jamie England making to 2-0. Dan Woodhead's 50th minute reply put Potton back in the game but a Charlie Ide goal on the stroke of full time sealed the win for the Dragons.

In league action, Langford were 6-1 up against Cockfosters at half time but let the visitors come back to 6-4 at the final whistle which enabled the Reds to climb back to second spot, a point behind new leaders Harefield United who beat Holmer Green 2-0.

The Reds' goalscorers were Wes Byrne with a hat-trick Paul Donald, Rob Groves and Danny Howell, the Cockfosters replies from Casey, Chandler, Moniatis and Pigden.

And at Hitchin Road, there was more misery for managerless Arlesey Athletic who suffered a 2-1 reverse against Hatfield Town. Their goalscorer was Terry Lock but Beck and Golder netted for the visitors.
