Beds U16s enjoy fine win

Kevin Thoburn has stepped down from his role as Bedfordshire FA representative team manager after six successful years to concentrate on his other football interests.

The U16 and U18 management roles have been separated, with John Harris (07731 652737) and Butch Fazal (07720 311520) working together at U18 level and Colin Sharpe (07859 069555) and Paul Jones (07711 149323) at U16 level. Trials are now taking place and the managers can be contacted on the numbers above.

The U18s will take on the Berks & Bucks FA U18s on Sunday, September 7, in the Douglas Frost Memorial Trophy.

Liam Toomey, meanwhile, netted four times as Bedfordshire U16s retained the Rodney Redmond Memorial Trophy with a 6-0 demolition of Huntingdonshire at St Neots.

Toomey opened his account on the stroke of half time to add to Lee Neale's opener and give Beds a 2-0 lead at the interval.

Beds increased their lead in the first half of the second period before Toomey netted three times in the final quarter to wrap up a convincing victory for Sharpe's side.
