Hospital Cup holders go through on Tuesday
Having lost their East Beds Senior Shield quarter-final tie against Flitwick on Monday, just 24 hours later Potton Town were making their exit from the Bedford Hospital Cup.
On Monday night Potton had been dismissed for 84 while opponents Flitwick got home at 85-1 to win by nine wickets.
And it was a similar disastrous evening at Fairfield on Tuesday as they were bowled out for 74 while chasing a Biggleswade 16 over total of 159-4.
With the cup holders having won the toss, Biggleswade decided to bat and with Jimmy Hart (27) given out for obstruction, the skipper together with fellow opener Kevin Wright had put on 59 runs for the first wicket.
With Wright then caught by Angus Berry off the bowling of Sean Stevens for 48 and the score at 90-2, brothers Jay (34 not out) and Dan Szwajbak (30) took it to 142-3.
The last wicket to fall was that of Michael Johnson, bowled by Colin Stevens for three with the scoreboard showing 159-4.
In reply Potton were never in the hunt and with openers James Worboys and Jason Welch both back in the pavilion having mustered 12 runs between them, Craig Worley (13) and Ben Welch (19) were the only two batsmen to make double figures thanks to good bowling by Jay Szwajbak (3-6 off four), Dan Szwajbak (2-7off two) and Chris Asque who was a little more costly at 3-45 off four.
Matt Twigg (1-10 off two) took the other wicket as the visitors were dismissed with four overs to spare for 74 to lose by 85 runs.
