... but it's cup joy for Rokermen and United
Arlesey Town bowed out of the GX Cup at Top Field last night as they were beaten 4-0 by Southern League Premier side Hitchin Town.
The first round tie was rearranged after the Hitchin pitch was waterlogged two weeks ago but with neither side really having had much success of late, it was the senior side who went through.
The home side went ahead courtesy of an own goal score by Blues defender Tahwid Juneja on 39 minutes while second half strikes from the Canaries' Charge (59 and 89 minutes) and Bull after 79 did the damage.
In the UCL League Cup, Stotfold ended hosts Cogenhoe United's seven game league and cup winning run with a 2-0 victory to book a quarter-final against Newport Pagnell.
Ryan Aldrin and Brett Donnelly were the Rokermen's marksmen after they came under early pressure from the Cooks at Compton Park.
In the SSML Premier Division Cup, Biggleswade United returned to winning ways after eight successive league and cup defeats with a 3-1 home win against Berkhamsted Town.
Sean Murray was on target twice in the second half in the 50th and 63rd minutes after Nathan Hilaire had give Nick Burton's side 16th minute lead.
But Berko grabbed a 72nd minute consolation courtesy of Tony Field but it's United who now host Cockfosters – they knocked out Holmer Green 2-1 – in the next round.
There was less joy at Forde Park where a makeshift Langford side bowed out 3-1 to visitors Hertford Town.
With Pablo Ardiles (the son of Argentine star Ossie) at the helm, the visitors goals came from Attila Korsovelki on 40 minutes and a Lee Roberts' double in the 42nd and 78th. At 2-1, Danny Howells had pulled one back for the Reds who were well beaten by a good Hertford side who are now expected to rapidly climb the Premier Division table.
Tonight (Wednesday) sees Arlesey Athletic hosting New Bradwell St Peter at Hitchin Road in the SSML Division One Cup.
