Trophy holders St Ives Town ended their season without silverware after letting their grasp on the Hunts Premier Cup slip against fellow UCL side Potton United at The Hollow last Thursday.

A fourth minute goal from Nathan Frater was enough to give United a 1-0 victory and outgoing manager Dean Chapman a cup final in which to complete his stint in Potton's hot seat.

And like the Hunts FA's other competition, the Hinchingbrooke Cup, the final was between two sides from a different county with Potton meet Bedfordshire rivals Biggleswade United on Wednesday (see back report).

Potton made a poor start and were lucky when the Saints' striker Will Fordham had his second minute header ruled out for offside after he had beaten Joe Pursell in the home goal.

However midfielder Frater raced in to beat two St Ives defenders before finding the top corner of goalkeeper Rob McKney's net from the edge of the area for the game's only goal.

Unfortunately just five minutes later Frater had to be replaced by substitute Sam Worthington after he pulled a hamstring while right on the stroke of half time it looked as if Potton had doubled their advantage when Shiblu Miah's powerful shot appeared to be carried over the goalline by McKney as he caught it, but the referee deemed otherwise.

Surprisingly the Saints rarely threatened in the second half and while Potton did have the ball in their net again midway through, it was obvious to all that Mickey O'Farrell was well offside when he volleyed home Miah's cross.

Then in the final action, Worthington saw his goalbound shot cleared away by a St Ives defender with the keeper beaten.

On the new manager front, Potton's executive committee are interviewing four applicants for the post this week.

Potton United: Pursell, Doherty, Chapman, Mulholland, D O'Farrell, Lanham, Broughton, Frater (Worthington 9), Miah, M O'Farrell, Boland.
