Reds lift charity cup

Langford beat Biggleswade Town in Friday final
Langford lifted the centenary North Beds Charity Cup on home soil last night (Friday).

The Reds defeated local rivals Biggleswade Town in front of a bumper crowd of 275 in the final at Forde Park.

Paul Donald netted the only goal in a game of few chances, seeing home a corner shortly before half time.

North Beds Charity Cup chairman Horace Dilley presented the trophy to the Reds in front of invited dignitaries including North East Beds MP Alistair Burt.

Later Mr Burt handed over plaques to mark the centenary of the competition to all participating clubs.

Gate receipts topped £1,000 which the cup committee will donate to a local worthy cause.

Sponsors of the evening were as follows: programme - Biggleswade Chronicle; match footballs - Andy Passman, Molten Distributor & Mid Beds Soccer; cup winner's medals - Phil Pateman; runners-up medals - Levitt Partnership, Mantles Group Ltd, Spencer & Valerie Cooper; officials' medals - Brian Doggett; club plaques - Horace Dilley; players' buffet and guest and officials' buffet - Aldi; wine & soft drinks - Brian & Sylvia Tansley; additional sponsors - Somerfields and Surfin' Cafe/ Lounge.
