SATURDAY FOOTBALL PREVIEW: Beds to host Dorset in National Cup

Peter Francis previews the weekeend's Bedfordshire League action
This weekend sees the main point of focus fall onto The FA Carlsberg National League Systems Cup tie at Second Meadow, Biggleswade United, between The Bedfordshire County Football League and The Dorset Premier League, Kick Off 2pm where the league's representative team will be seeking to advance to the last 16 of the competition for the very first time.

Has a consequence of this tie, all Premier Division supported by Sportsform fixtures for the day have been postponed to allow the league to field it's strongest team.

For the lower Division sides, it's business as usual, and for 11 Division One sides, action in the 2nd Round of this seasons Bedfordshire FA Intermediate Cup. The league has interest in 9 of the 15 ties taking place, of these two are all Bedfordshire County Football League affairs.

At Cutler Hammer, Kempston will be hosting Meltis Albion, looking to repeat their league victory back in early September. Whilst at Steppingley Road, Flitwick Town entertain Leighton United. Town looking to avenge a 3-1 league defeat at United's Stanbridge Road ground back in early September.

Of the other seven sides in action, three will have home advantage. Being, Henlow at Groveside, when they receive a visit from Totternhoe Reserves, who currently sit in the middle of The Molten Spartan South Midlands League Reserve Division Two table. Marston Social at their Playing Fields headquarters, when Molten South Midlands League Reserve Division One side Langford Reserves come calling and AFC Kempston Town Reserves who face Luton District & South Beds League Premier Division, St Josephs at Hillgrounds.

For the four sides hitting the road, Stevington appear to have the toughest task has they journey to Roker Park to face high flying Stotfold Reserves of the Hereward Teamwear United Counties League Reserve Division One. Whilst Bedford Sports Athletic make their way to face Molten Spartan South Midlands League Division One outfit Crawley Green Reserves.

So, if we are to have a winner on the road, it could well be either Sandy, who journey to face The 61FC Luton Reserves of the Molten Spartan South Midlands League Reserve Division Two at Beverley Road or Caldecote Reserves who venture to Woburn Road and a meeting with Ampthill Town Reserves who also ply their trade in the same Molten Spartan South Midlands League Reserve Division Two.

League action thus in Division One is reduced to just two games. At Moggerhanger Playing Fields, Blunham Reserves will be hosting FC Meppershall whilst on The Green, Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves receive a visit from a Campton Reserves side that has lost it's last four trips on the road.

It's however a full programme of fixtures in Division Two. League Leaders, Bedford Hatters in home Miller Road action against a Marabese Ceramics side that travel seeking their third away win on the bounce. Whilst subject to their recovery from the Swine Flu outbreak,the players of second place Potton Wanderers will be seeking to retain their seasons unbeaten home record when Brace Sparta Community Reserves visit Mill Lane.

Third place Marston Shelton Rovers meanwhile,will be making their way to The Warren to face second from bottom of the table hosts Elstow Abbey, fully expecting to take their unbeaten ways to 10 games.

Another club hitting the road full of hope will be Arlesey Social Galacticos, they head to face Great Barford still with their seasons unbeaten away record intact against a home side that has now dropped into the bottom five of the league standings.

Over at Whiston Crescent, hosts Clifton would love to come up with their first home win of the campaign when local rivals Shefford Town come calling. Whilst Harpur FC at The Bedford Hockey Centre will be expecting to return to winning ways when paid a visit by bottom of the table Shillington, who travel in this game number 10 of the season still looking for their first win of the campaign.

The day's other game in this Division coming at King George VI Playing Fields where Kings AFC seek home win number four on the bounce against Kempston Royals.

For Division Three league leaders Queens Park Crescents, it's a chance to make it six wins on the bounce when they go into home Mowsbury Park action against Renhold Village. Whilst with second place Dunton Reserves sitting the afternoon out, Lidlington United Sports will be fully expected to climb above them with a result from their home Hurst Grove clash with bottom of the table Riseley Sports Reserves.

Other action in this Division sees Sandy Reserves, now without a win in six outings entertain still unbeaten on the road Stopsley Park at Bedford Road Recreation Ground. Whilst Westoning Recreation Club Reserves head for Harvey Close and a meeting with Caldecote A, unbeaten on their last three trips away from their Greenfield Road base.

In Division Four, league leaders Sundon Park Rangers are sitting the afternoon out and will drop below either or both of Sharnbrook Reserves and M&DH Oakley should they come up with wins from their home encounters of the day. Sharnbrook at Lodge Road receiving a visit from Eastcotts. Whilst M&DH Oakley entertain Thurleigh.

For bottom of the table Bedford Park Rangers, it's a trip on the road to Hinksley Recreation Ground seeking their first away win of the season over hosts Dinamo Flitwick. While in Hillgrounds, second from bottom of the table Kempston Athletic seek home win number three on the bounce when paid a visit by Flitwick Town Reserves.

The day's final action coming at Stewartby Way, where Stewartby Village host Clifton Reserves.
