Town's carnival to have French Connection
Rugby men to join Biggleswade festivities
What do you get when you throw 40 French rugby players into an English market town on carnival weekend?
You won't have long to wait for the answer, as the French contingent will add a continental feel to carnival weekend in Biggleswade.
The team from Montestruc, in the Gers region of France, are in England to play Biggleswade RUFC on Saturday evening.
Montestruc is in the foothills of the Pyrenees where the local speciality is Armagnac brandy, fois grass and duck!
The players arrive next Thursday and will be treated to a traditional brewery trip to club partners Wells & Youngs and also to the popular micro-brewery, Banks and Taylor at Shefford.
A visit to Cambridge on Friday is followed by a traditional English fish and chip supper. Saturday's entertainment will include a visit to, and a possible inclusion in Biggleswade Carnival.
Biggy ventured to France last season with a rip-roaring tour, which included sampling the aforementioned Armagnac to excess and playing in a rugby match which few could remember ... let alone forget!
The main game kicks off at Langford Road at approximately 5.30pm following the carnival and will be followed by a dinner and games night at the Langford Road club.
