Stotfold cyclist Pendleton wins team sprint last night

Victoria Pendleton is today celebrating after winning gold in the 2007 UCI World Track Championships in Palma de Mallorca.

The Stotfold cyclist teamed up with Shanaze Reade to scoop the title in the first ever staging of the World Championships of the Women's Team Sprint yesterday (Thursday).

For Reade it was a sensational result in only her second Track competition. And for Victoria it was a second world title to go with her sprint win back in 2005.

They beat Netherlands duo Hijgenaar Yvonne Kanis Willy in the final.

Victoria said: "She is very fast and its not easy getting on her wheel on that opening lap and it was a really strong ride.

"Although the sprint is my main event, this is still a World Champions jersey and I'm really happy to have won it and I think there is more to come.

"This is the first one I have done with Shanaze and didn't know what to expect. I just focused on my own lap and hoped it went okay and it did."
