Stotfold cyclist lands team gold and sprint silver in Copenhagen
Stotfold cyclist Victoria Pendleton celebrated with gold and silver medals at the UCI Track World Cup in Copenhagen at the weekend.
On Friday (February 15) she earned silver in the Women's Sprint - the sole event for women sprint cyclists in at the Beijing Olympics later this year.
The triple World Champion was the fastest in qualifying, completing 200metres in 11.178 seconds and followed that with victory over Holland's Yvonne Hijgenaar in her quarter final.
In the semis she beat China's Shuang Guo but the final was just a step too far, and she was beaten 2-0 by Willy Kanis of Holland.
Things got even better in Denmark for Victoria on Saturday (February 16) when with Shanaze Reade she won the gold in the Women's Team Sprint.
On Sunday (February 17) she competed in the Keiren. In the second round she came second to qualify for the final, where she finished fifth - Willy Kanis was first home.
The UCL World Track Championships will be held in Manchester at the end of March.
