Award music to Mary's ears!
Mary Infield receives Mayor's Award for years of service to community
A woman dedicated to music was presented with the town mayor's award for her services to the community.
Mary Infield, 87, was presented with the special award at the annual meeting of Sandy Town Council for her work within Sandy Ladies Choir and Sandy Singers.
Three nominations were received by the panel of judges, which consisted of current mayor Colin Osborne, past mayor David Gale and deputy mayor Geoff White.
Cllr Osborne said: "This is an award that came about in 2002 as a result of two students from Sandy Upper School making the suggestion.
"I know all three people who were nominated and have experienced some of the activities they have been involved with in our community.
"Between them they have given more than 100 years' service in this town.
Speaking after the meeting Mrs Infield, of Windsor Way, Sandy spoke of her shock at winning the award.
She said: "I suppose over the years I have done a lot but I don't really think it's that much and I don't really think I deserve it.
"I am very pleased and honoured though to be chosen and was very surprised to hear all those lovely things said about me."
Mrs Windsor has played an active role in running the ladies choir in Sandy and the Sandy Singers and is also an organist at the Methodist Church.
