Thousands join in the celebrations
Thousands packed the Carnival Parade route on Saturday to take part in the event of the year - the grand parade of floats.

Headed by the Carnival Queen Sibretta Lee Cuzner and her court, the Grand Parade of Floats took to the streets to bring music and colour to the town.

And beautiful weather meant the event really did deliver fun in the sun.

More than a dozen floats featuring popular characters from top Disney films took part in the event, with the Pride of Procession award going to the Hopbine for its Alice in Wonderland entry.

And the pub truly got into the carnival spirit, even decorating the watering hole so carnival-goers could enjoy a drink with the Mad Hatter himself.

The parade left Holmemead Middle School at 2pm, with crowds of people lining the streets to cheer it on.

And by the time we reached the Market Square the throngs of people were several deep - and were enjoying all the fun of the fair, with Harris' Fun Fair on hand to keep the fun rolling after the parade had passed.

Walking alongside the floats and marching bands Encore and the Biggleswade Sea Cadets were dressed walkers and an intrepid Chronicle team - who made their way through the town giving out goodies and collecting pennies for worthy causes.

Carnival Chairman Jim Brady said: "It was absolutely tremendous, we have had loads of compliments. It was one of the best carnivals we've had and everyone had a great day - and the weather was on our side."
