Girls can compete in carnival five-a-side for first time

England may not be going to the European Championships but the next Steven Gerrards and Wayne Rooneys will be showing off their talents at Biggleswade Carnival's five-a-side.

And for the first time the girls may have the chance to compete in their own tournament.

The popular boys' competition is scheduled for Saturday, July 12 at Stratton School in Biggleswade.

There will be contests for U10s, U11s, U12s, U13s, U14s and U15s. Team places are given on a first come, first served basis so pick up your registration form from the Biggleswade Chronicle offices at 7 High Street, Biggleswade.

Girls football is growing rapidly in popularity and the Biggleswade Carnival is considering a tournament just for them on Sunday, July 13. However, it wants to find out if there is enough interest, and at what age levels.

If your team would like to compete please express your interest to Tracey as soon as possible on 01767 220905.

The adult competition kicks off on July 13, again at Stratton School. To book your team in contact Eamonn on 01767 312873.

The Biggleswade Carnival week continues to take shape with regular features – the quiz night, bingo, disco, darts, poker, karaoke and grand draw fun day – all scheduled.

Families should make a note of the duck race, to take place on the River Ivel on Sunday, June 22.

Float entries have begun to arrive for the carnival parade on June 28 which is on the theme of Disney.
