Parents take daughter and son-in-law to High Court

A parent' loan to their daughter for her dream home ended in a bitter row at the High Court this week.

The payment of £81,000 prompted a dispute that tore the family apart and ran up a fortune in lawyers' bills.

Property developer, Richard Daniels, and his wife Jacqueline, took their own daughter and son-in-law, Nigel and Heather Lewis, to London's High Court, demanding repayment of £81,000 loans, with interest.

And, whilst ruling in favour of Mr and Mrs Daniels on Wednesday, Mr Justice Forbes said the case was a tragedy for both them and Mr and Mrs Lewis, who live at Park Farm, Old Warden.

The judge said: "The case is essentially a simple one.

"However, it is also a very sad one because the two loans, each of which was undoubtedly made by parents out of love and affection for their daughter and her husband, have given rise to a bitter, protracted and ruinous family dispute fought out in the courts, with no quarter given by either side".
