Success of Biggleswade's safety forum leads to Sandy getting its own scheme
A pilot problem-solving group that proved so successful in Biggleswade is now being tried out elsewhere.

The Community Safety Forum held its second meeting in Biggleswade last month and has been running since January. And it has gone so well that a similar forum is now planned for Sandy.

Biggleswade Police Inspector Mark Egan said: "The group in Biggleswade was basically a trial run and if it worked out then we would try it elsewhere.

"And it has, so our next move is to try it out in Sandy and if that group is successful then we will try it in Arlesey, Stotfold and the rural villages.

"It is basically a chance for people to tell us what their main police issues are and then we will prioritise the top three and work at solving them."

Bedfordshire Police are looking at starting up the Sandy forum within the next two months and are currently talking to local people to find out what their main issues are.

Insp Egan added: "The forum will give the public the opportunity to put their views across and tell us what the issues in Sandy are.

"We will listen to what people have to say in the forum and add it to our list, but as well as that we are already noting down the problems when we talk to the public.

"We will then look at trying to solve the three problems that affect the most people in Sandy."
