300 volunteers need to be recruited in the next three years

Scouting's new local development officer has a tough challenge ahead of her as she prepares to recruit 300 extra volunteers over the next three years.

Jo Millard, 27, of Clifton Fields in Clifton, says her former job as an estate agent in Stotfold will stand her in good stead as she prepares to sell Scouting to adult volunteers.

A former Sandy Upper School pupil, Jo runs a Brownie pack in Stotfold and was a Venture Scout herself, as well as playing with the Sandy Scout and Guide Band in her youth.

She said: "I don't have a magic wand but selling expensive properties does teach you two things – push the good points, in Scouting that's the challenge, adventure and fun, and don't take no for an answer.

"Even the busiest person needs an hour or so a week when they can forget the cares of the world and be captivated by the inquisitive and dynamic world of today's youngsters. Scouting will offer them that and more."

Jo's first job will be to push Scouting in the Ouse Valley area near Bedford.

Do you believe there are UFOs in our skies?
Yes, aliens are out there
No, a load of rubbish
They are all just sky lanterns
