Ambulance service warning about accident blackspot
A driver was trapped in his lorry after it overturned on the A1 roundabout yesterday. (Thursday)

The incident happened at around 12pm when the articulated lorry overturned at Kelpie Marine near the Black Cat roundabout, which resulted in a large amount of builders rubble being spilled.

The accident has led to the East of England Ambulance Service (EEAS) warning drivers to take care at the accident blackspot, which has seen a number of accidents over the last three years.

A spokesman for EEAS said: "It seems that people are just taking that bend too fast.

"I have seen countless accidents at exactly the same spot and people just don't seem to realise how dangerous it is."

The driver was trapped in the lorry only for a short time and was treated at Bedford South Wing Hospital for minor injuries.

One lane of the A1 was closed until around 6pm that night, while the road was cleared of the rubble and the vehicle was recovered.

Beds Police are now looking into the cause of the accident.
