Something for the whole family during the bank holiday weekend

Get ready to party on – it is that time of year again and Potton residents are getting ready for a weekend long summer celebration.

Party On Potton launches today and goes on until Bank Holiday Monday, and guarantees to have something to entertain the entire community.

Over at the town's playing fields a marquee will be providing the venue for tonight's family disco, which starts at 7.30pm and features a local band.

Bounce down to the skate park from Saturday to Monday for a go on the bouncy castle, or scale new heights from Saturday to Monday on the climbing wall.

Perfectly pampered pooches will be vying to be top dog at a new dog show at the arena by the skate park on August 23 at 2.30pm.

Other events on the Saturday include a carnival with the theme 'countries around the world' and a children's fancy dress contest, which both start at Kitchener Transport Yard, Willow Road at noon.

Sound Express Big Band, a German swing band who come from Lanenlongsheim, Potton's twin town, round off Saturday evening from 8pm at the main marquee. Tickets are £10.

A tug-of-war contest takes place over the brook on Sunday afternoon, with other activities for the day including Potton Olympics, a circus workshop, kids' karaoke and volleyball.

Live band Evolution is playing at 8pm in the marquee – and fancy dress on a movie star theme is optional. Tickets are £10.

Daredevils with a need for speed will be taking part in the soap box derby down Bury Hill on Bank Holiday Monday.

Other events planned for the day include the history societies walk, a posh picnic (weather permitting), music from the east of Beds choir and rounders matches.

All the day events are free. Tickets for party on Potton can be purchased at Potton Post Office or Camerons in the Market Square.
