Pub punters petition to save landlady
Devastated drinkers rally round to save manager
Upset punters of a pub have joined together to campaign to save their landlady.
Drinkers at The Plough in Langford were devastated to hear that current manager Gill Moulden, who has been the temporary licensee since last November, would not be a permanent fixture at the pub.
After finding enough money to take over permanantly as licensee and putting together a business plan, Greene King has announced it has chosen another couple to take over the running of the pub.
A group of her loyal customers, calling themselves The Round Table because they sit at a round table in the pub every day, started a petition this week that already has more than 200 signatures.
An overwhelmed Gill said: "I was extremely upset to find out that I didn't get the pub but I just thought there wasn't much I can do about it.
"But the round table lot started a petition a couple of days ago and already it has 200 signatures, which is amazing.
"It is so nice to have such loyal and supportive customers, it's just overwhelming all the trouble they gone to, it's awesome really."
In a letter to Greene King, 'Round Tabler' Gina Cardey said: "We were all bitterly disappointed with the recent decision that Greene King has made with regard to the tenancy of this pub.
"Having witnessed the amount of time, energy and personal commitment that Gill has spent in building her business plans and seeking to arrange the finances needed to secure her 'much beloved' career choice, we all shared in her devastation at the news."
The customers plan to hand over the petition to Greene King next week in a bid to save Gill.
Greene King's regional manager Steve Folbigg said: "Gill Moulden has been running the Plough pub for us as a temporary manager.
"We are aware some customers are disappointed that Gill will be leaving. However, we are confident the new licensees will be able to create a successful business looking after the whole community at the Plough.
"We would like to thank Gill for her help and hope that she will continue to work as temporary management cover for us in the future."
