Talented sports enthusiasts will be put to the test to discover their sporting streak.


As part of the East Beds Sports Partnership campaign to get youngsters more active, Sandy Upper School in Engayne Avenue, will host the Gifted and Talented Academy on Monday, February 15 and Tuesday, February 16.


Children from middle schools across the region will attend the academy to tackle various sporting tasks.


Megan Giglia, a multi sports coach for the partnership is leading the project.


She said: "This initiative is designed to help youngsters develop in sports and learn how they can use sporting skills in other ways.


"Pupils from middle schools will be selected for the academy in February where they will be given lots of tasks to do.


"So for example, we'll give them a certain task where they will have to use team working skills or use their initiative to complete it."


The scheme is also designed to get more girls involved in sports, which could be used to aid the development of various life skills.


Year 10 and 11 students from Sandy Upper School will also play a part in assisting staff on the day.


As part of their sports leadership courses, the teenagers will help pupils from Sandye Place, Edward Peake, Alban, Holmemead and Burgoyne middle schools get the most out of the sports events.
