Victoria Pendleton opens new cycleway
Champion Cyclist takes children on first ride of new path
Golden girl Victoria Pendleton officially opened a new cycleway in Stotfold on Tuesday.
The Gold medalist was joined by children from St Mary's Lower School, local councillors and onlookers as she cut the ribbon to officially open the new path in Stotfold Road.
The 26-year-old, who now splits her time between training in Manchester and her family home in Common Road, Stotfold, said: "I find it slightly bizarre but extremely flattering that the path I have cycled down since I was six is being named after me.
"But it is a real honour. This is where I grew up and went to school so I am very flattered indeed."
Victoria, who is a former pupil of St Mary's Lower School and Etonbury Middle School, is now back in Stotfold having a break before starting training for the Olympics next year.
Stotfold councillor and portfolio holder for customer services John Street introduced the star by saying: "It is a great pleasure to have Victoria here today to open the path.
"This is a great day for the children here. For them this will always be the day that they met a champion cyclist and rode alongside her.
"And hopefully it will inspire them as well."
