Olympian Victoria Pendleton has been transformed into a cybernetic sports star of the future by an artist.
Stotfold's golden girl has inspired artist Lee Jones to create this striking image, above, that combines fine art and futuristic elements, now being showcased through new British sports imagery company 2050Sports.com
Lee, who was born in Liverpool and has spent time in Hollywood, told the Chronicle: "I am a sports fan as well as an artist, and I was so inspired by the success of the GB cycling squad at the world championships in March and especially Victoria, that it sparked the idea in me of how when elite sports people reach the peak in their chosen field that they seem so unbeatable and so refined almost like perfectly engineered machines.
"When I saw the picture in the Observer Sports monthly of Victoria it gave me an image to develop and take reference from ending eventually with the finished painting VP2050."
He added: "I particularly wanted to start the series with Victoria, because she personifies all the best qualities of an elite sports person at the very pinnacle in their chosen discipline.
"She is dedicated, hard working, she has sacrificed other areas of her life to be the best, she has suffered disappointment, which has driven her to push herself harder, she portrays a healthy positive body image, she is an ambassador of her sport and a perfect role model."
Lee has worked with top athletes in the past, and was also behind the stunning graffiti inspired artwork that appeared in the pit lane during the World Superbike Championship in 2003 and 2004.
