We're cross at delay in moving crossing hazard
But council says sorry for works delay
A partially sighted man who has been campaigning for something to be done about a dangerous T-junction crossing has hit out at Beds County Council.
Michael Webb, of Newton Way, Sandy, who has been campaigning for three years about the crossing in Dapifer Drive, was assured last year that it would be moved to a safer location.
Mr Webb, 61, said: "I was told last year that it would be moved down the road so you don't have to look in three different directions when you cross, but a year later nothing has been done.
"I just think the council don't care about peoples' lives, why does there have to be an accident for something to be done?
"There are blind people, old, people, and young children who have to cross that road on a daily basis and it is so dangerous because you have to look right, then in the middle and then left.
"It has just become ridiculous, they have agreed with me that it needs to be moved to a safer place because its so dangerous but they can't out a few thousand pounds aside to actually do the work."
Mr Webb and friend Gwen Stacey, who also lives in Sandy, have both been asking the council to do something about the road that sees traffic from Sunderland Road, Newton Way, and Dapifer Drive come to the same point, for three years now but say their calls have come up against deaf ears.
County Cllr Tom Wootton, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "We planned to carry out the works last year.
"However, due to the proposed new location we had to carry out a further safety review by our road safety experts.
"This has taken longer than we expected but we assure Mr Webb that work will be finished by the end of the summer.
"We are very sorry that this has taken so long. We will happily get in contact with Mr Webb to explain this to him in more detail."
