Handover parade to be held in Biggleswade
Be part of the Olympic celebrations when a parade to mark the handing over of the official flag comes to Biggleswade this bank holiday weekend.

Biggleswade United FC was granted one of the official handover flags - but instead of keeping it to itself the club decided to hold a celebratory event for the entire community.

And on Sunday, August 24, hundreds of youngsters are expected to parade through the town to mark the historic event, before hoisting the flag in the Market Square.

Members of nine organisations have already signed up to be involved - from sports clubs to church organisations and the Scout movement.

And representatives from other groups around the district could also take part in the celebration.

Representatives from the various organisations will gather at Biggleswade Railway Station at 2pm, with the parade setting off at 3pm.

And it is hoped that Sports Development staff will be running races in the market square, as well as the youngsters creating a commemorative piece of artwork by hand printing in the colours of the Olympic rings.
