Look out for crime in your community by joining a Neighbourhood Watch.

Neighbourhood Watch is being relaunched in Sandy tomorrow (Saturday).

The scheme aims to reduce crime by getting members to report suspicious behaviour to the police and to their neighbours.

Sandy has had a Neighbourhood Watch in the past but it lapsed.

Police and Crime Commissioner Olly Martins will be attending the launch, which is in Sandy Baptist Church at 10.30am.

Members of the public are invited to go along to find out more about Neighbourhood Watch and to join in.

Cheryl McDonald of Sandy will be the town’s area co-ordinator.

Ken Lynch, who is promoting the Neighbourhood Watch, will be the co-ordinator for the Pinnacle ward, which he represents on Sandy Town Council.

He said: “There have been 20 burglaries in Sandy from January 1 to February 20. This situation is unacceptable in our community. The project will only succeed if we can involve the residents of Sandy .”

However, more positively, the number of burglaries decreased in February.

In a report to Sandy Town Council on Monday PCSO Ann Jeeves wrote: “As we had seen an increase in domestic burglary in the last few months this is a very positive report.

“We have just one attempted burglary.”

Bedfordshire Police has had teams working on the burglaries and several people have now been arrested.
