A further planning application has been submitted for a former industrial site.

In December 2011 Central Beds Council agreed that 75 houses could be built on the former Meller Beauty site in Sunderland Road, Sandy.

Now the applicant, Tempsford Kier Group, has submitted reserve planning permission requesting that the details of the housing estate be approved.

The application states: “The loss of the brownfield site has no negative impact upon the community but redevelopment will deliver real benefits for existing and new residents of Sandy.

“The increase in population will support the local economy and services and its overall impact will be beneficial.”

There will be three one bedroom homes, 23 two bedroom homes, 36 three bedroom homes and 13 four bedroom homes.

Of these 26 – or 35 per cent – will be affordable homes.

To reduce the noise levels from neighbouring industry there will be a continuous line of terraced houses parallel to Sunderland Road and Gateshead Close. These houses will create a noise barrier for the rest of the estate.

They will have the non-habitable rooms such as kitchens, halls and bathrooms at the front so that there is less noise in the bedrooms and living rooms at the back.

All of the houses will be two storeys or two and a half storeys high. They will be terraced, semi detached and detached.

The walls will be built with a mixture of buff and red colours. The roofs will be either slate grey or traditional red.

Road access will be from Sunderland Road only.

Pedestrians will be able to access the estate from Sunderland Road, Gateshead Close and the public right of way next to the northern boundary. Pedestrian crossings will be provided at junctions.

You can view the plans online at www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/PLANTECH/DCWebPages/AcolNetCGI.gov

Comments will be accepted until Friday, March 29.

You can comment online at the above address or email planning@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk quoting the planning application number CB/13/00542/RM.

Central Beds Council will then consider the application.
