Arlesey veteran request

Ken Rimell has written to Memory Lane in the hope that readers may be able to help him with information on a distant relative, Samuel Claud Delamont, who lived in Arlesey during the last century.

Samuel, known as Sam, was the son of Stanbridge School head teacher James Delamont.

He joined the Bedfordshire Regiment in 1916 but was wounded on the front line in France during WW1, leaving him with one arm shorter than the other. He had his own printing business and in 1919, the village of Arlesey presented him and other Arlesey and Stanbridge survivors of the Great War with a specially engraved commemorative pewter tankard.

Both villages apparently had the rare distinction that all their men who went to war came back.

Sam died in 1965. Please contact Memory Lane if you can offer any help to Ken.
