Shefford's mill stream in captured during the First World War
This is a nostalgic glimpse of Shefford Mill Stream during the First World War.
In the boat are some of John Gudgin's relatives including a cousin, in army uniform.
Frank Gudgin was killed in Mesopotamia soon after this picture was taken and is among those named on Shefford's war memorial.
John's parents had two boats and in past times the mill stream measured 30 feet across.
However, following the demolition of the watermill, which lowered the height of the river, coupled with the building of Shefford weir, the banks collapsed and today the width is just 10ft - hardly big enough for a boat.
John also believes this narrowing is due to the river not having been cleaned out in 25 years.
