Potton School's class of 1940
Old wartime school pupils pose in Potton
This 1940 group photograph is believed to show children from the old Potton School – now the site of the working men's club – and unusually features a number of boys who appear to be in Boys' Brigade uniform at the back.
Brian Lawrence brought in the photograph which belonged to his wife's uncle Peter Gilbert.
Peter appears in a dark suit at the far right end of the front row.
The only other pupil that Brian can name is the tallest girl in the middle of the back row of girls, directly in front of the boys, and wearing what appears to be a white ribbon in her hair.
She is Doris Inskip.
Brian also believes Joyce Jakes and Peggy Spencer are in the picture, and members of the Jakes family still live and work in Potton.
This story appeared in Memory Lane on January 1, 2010.
