Shefford Primary School pupils in peacetime

1948-49 photographs shows children of Shefford

Pupils of Shefford Primary School gathered together for this photograph which was taken in 1948 or 1949.

The picture belongs to John Byrne, originally from Shefford.

His old Shefford pal Dave Tierney, author of the recently published book Firing in the Fifties which tells of his life on the the local steam railway, used Photoshop 'to clean it up a bit'.

Said Dave: "I suspect it was taken by a photographer from your paper but as I only received a scanned copy, I cannot tell."

In the top row from left are: Marie Chambers, Clive Skilton, Carol Hardboard, John Sully, Joan Braybooks, Joe Rainbow, Valerie Tiller, Peter Mallet and Doreen Finn.

In the second row down are: Tony Albone, Ann Stewart, Wendy Cullen, Eddie Burge, Harold Hayes, - Braybrooks, Dave Tierney, Brenda Harder, Bridget Stanbridge and a boy believed to have been known as 'Taffy' who lived at Henlow.

The next row shows ?, Georgina Smith?, Mary Bush, Sheila Stock, Polly Scales, Margaret Moore, Janet Peacock, Rosemarie -, - Stewart and Janet Goldsborough.

Lastly, in the front row are Ken Taylor, Charlie Thripp, David Wilson, Roy Burson, ?, David Poulter, Jim Aspeden, John Byrne and Victor Tiller.
