Southill Cricket Club's visit to Shefford

Early 1920s photo of players

This is Southill Cricket Club pictured somewhere between 1922 and 1925.

The photo was taken in Shefford and brought in by John Gudgin, who we recently featured in conjunction with Shefford Mill.

John's father Wally played cricket for the county and appears in the picture.

Not many of the names are known at this stage but in the back row, first left is the umpire who came from Shefford.

Second left is Wally Gudgin and second from right in the back row is Charlie Knight who was a builder at Meppershall.

Also in the photo is Teddy Watts.

John believes the man first left in the front row is called Bryant.

Please contact us if you can name any of the other players.

This story appeared in a spring issue of Memory Lane.
