1962 photo shows Potton virtually unchanged except for the cars

Tysoe & Son remains a familiar sight in Potton today and appears virtually unchanged in this 1962 photograph of King Street, Potton.

In fact the whole view has hardly changed at all but what dates this picture are the cars.

In the foreground is a Hillman Minx and in the background next to the pub are a Morris Minor Shooting Brake and a Ford Thames 500 weight van.

Brian Lawrence, who kindly brought in the photo, also pointed out what appears to be an old fashioned seed setter just behind the Land Rover. And he can remember owning one himself!

At around the time the photo was taken Brian was working as an aerial rigger, and the old fashioned aerials he used to erect can be seen along the rooftops of the Kings Street buildings.

This story appeared in Memory Lane on November 27, 2009.
