Photographer Tracey Goodacre trains her lens on Woburn in deep midwinter

Bored of the snow yet? Well it is providing roar excitement at Woburn Safari Park, as the residents are enjoyingthe big freeze.

Dr Jake Veasey, Woburn's head of the department of animal management and conservation, said: "One of the big misconceptions people have is that our animals are not used to cold weather.

"But actually in the desert it can drop below freezing at night, because there is no cloud cover.

"Some of our animals come from parts of the world that are at high altitude, and mammals such as the tigers can regulate their body temperature."

However, Woburn bosses have invested heavily in facilities to give the animals the chance to stay inside if they choose to.

Dr Veasey said: "We try to provide all of our animals with the option to run around, even when they choose to stay indoors because of the weather.

"Our new rhino house for example, is probably ten times the size of the old one. And our giraffe home has trebled in size since 2005.

"It can seem a bit strange seeing tigers and rhinos walking in the snow. But they will go for a wander, and if they want to go back in they do."
