Meppershall magazine scoops top award
THE editor of a village magazine is celebrating after it was judged to be the fifth best in the UK.
Dick Bulley, who edits the Meppershall Messenger was delighted when he received an email from the organisers of the National Parish Magazine Awards.
Judges commended the monthly title – which was competing against 619 rivals – and described it as ‘a magazine with a good mix of articles’.
Dick, 71, who has been editor of the Messenger for four years is very happy that the magazine proved such a hit with judges.
He said: “We were contacted by the organisers who asked us if we wanted to take part and invited us to send them two copies of the Messenger from the first half of last year if we did want to be involved.
“We sent our issues from February and May, but we didn’t hear anything from them for months, until I had the email quite recently to say that we had come fifth.”
Dick, who is retired and has lived in Meppershall for 12 years spends up to five days a month putting the Messenger together.
He added: “We have a team of about 10 people who are regular contributors, but other villagers write for the magazine as well.
“It’s very much a team effort and I would like to thank everyone for their input.”
The magazine, which is published 10 times a year is also produced entirely in Meppershall.
Some 730 copies are printed at a committee member’s house before being distributed.
