Award-winning drama on stage

David Benson - Locherbie

David Benson - Locherbie

FOLLOWING a Fringe First Award-winning Edinburgh premiere – which earned national and international acclaim – Lockerbie: Unfinished Business is coming to Bedford.

When 270 people were killed in Britain’s worst terrorist atrocity, grieving father Jim Swire found his faith in his own country’s legal system shattered.

His full shocking story is told in the production by writer/performer David Benson and director Hannah Eidinow – a quadruple Fringe First Award-winning team.

In August 2009, the man convicted for the bombing, Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi was released from jail on compassionate grounds, to return home to Libya, terminally ill with prostate cancer.

The second appeal against his conviction was dropped despite multiple suggestions that a miscarriage of justice had occurred, that a key witness was bribed and coached, and that crucial evidence was faked during the original trial.

Using a blend of verbatim material and dramatisation, Benson presents Swire’s ongoing struggle to find the truth about who was responsible for his daughter’s death.

The play is showing at Bedford School Theatre on Friday, February 11 at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £9 or £7 concessions. To book your tickets go to www.bedfordschool.org.uk/theatre
