Drama in the open air
Shakespeare under the stars at Old Warden Park
Donkeys, Fairy Kings and Queens, and a certain mischievous imp named Puck bring one of theatre's timeless love stories into the open this weekend.
Summer is the perfect time to enjoy Shakespeare in the open air, so why not head down to Old Warden Park and lose yourself in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Performed under the stars as intended when penned 400-years ago, the action follows four young lovers who need a little help in order to sort out their relationship issues.
Sadly they choose a forest inhabited by the well meaning, but hapless pixie Puck, and with a little misplaced passion potion chaos soon ensues.
With one of the funniest side plots in Shakespearean literature mimicking the central characters actions too, this has long been one of the playwright's best loved pieces.
Produced by professional Shakespearian touring company Say Two Productions, and starring Beds born and raised actor David Houston-Luck, audiences can expect, colourful costumes, dynamic dance, music and a little magic in the air.
With a pre-show talk by the artistic director and a chance to get up on stage to try your hand at sword fighting and some traditional costume before the action starts, there's no reason not to grab your picnic and enjoy some top theatre in the summer sun.
So get down to Old Warden Park this Friday (July 17) from 6.45pm. Tickets cost 15, concessions 12, under 16s 5.
Specialised picnic hampers are available from Shuttleworth by calling 01767 626200 with tickets available by contacting 01257 453956 or visiting www.saytwo.co.uk
