Penelope Keith stars in stage adaptation

A television legend will be the star of a comic play.

Penelope Keith, the winner of two BAFTAs and an Olivia Award, first came to fame in the BBC’s hugely popular comedy, The Good Life.

Now she will feature in a stage adaptation of Keith Waterhouse’s bestselling book, Good Grief.

The story centres around June, who is following her late husband’s instructions to keep a journal of her feelings.

But June finds that grieving is not the straightforward process she had imagined – especially when she finds herself surprisingly drawn to a stranger she sees wearing her husband’s suit.

The Bath Chronicle described Good Grief as “a clever play and perfect for one of the country’s best loved actresses” while the Sunday Independent said it is “beautifully written.”

Penelope Keith also starred in To the Manor Born.

Her recent stage work includes The Rivals, Entertaining Angels and The Importance of Being Earnest.

The cast also includes Christopher Ravenscroft, Jonathan Firth and Flora Montgomery.

Keith Waterhouse, an award-winning journalist and playwright, has had an extensive career.

His work for the stage includes Billy Liar, Our Song, Mr and Mrs Nobody and Jeffrey Bernard Is Unwell.

Good Grief will be showing at Cambridge Arts Theatre from Monday (November 5) to Saturday, November 10.

Performances will be at 7.45pm each evening.

There will be additional matinee showings at 2.30pm on the Thursday and Saturday.

Tickets cost from £15 to £30 plus a £2.50 booking fee.

They are available from the box office on 01223 503333 or online at https://cambridgeartstheatre.purchase-tickets-online.co.uk
