Central Beds Council’s executive committee has recommended the extra investment to help reach more people.

With further additional investment from BDUK this funding would be expected to support well over an additional 1,200 homes.

This would bring the total number of additional premises supported under the Superfast Extension Programme to over 7,100 and enable the council to expand its coverage from 90 per cent of premises to at least 95 per cent in 2017/18.

Cllr Richard Wenham, Deputy Executive Member for Corporate Resources at the council, said: “This additional investment is further proof of our commitment to push for the highest coverage of superfast broadband we can achieve.

“We’re on track with current targets and we’re seeking every opportunity to maximise coverage for Central Bedfordshire residents and businesses”.
