Blood donation concerns

A blood donor has expressed his concern after receiving an urgent request to donate.

In July Gary Dolan of Station Road in Biggleswade spoke against the removal of Cambs’ and Huntingdon’s blood donations vans.

He regularly donated at one that stopped at his workplace in Wyboston Lakes.

A letter from NHS Blood and Transport told him that stocks of his blood group, A-, have fallen sharply and asked him to donate.

Gary said the he cannot get to the alternative sessions with ease and that the need for blood should have been put above financial cuts.

But Jackie Morgan from NHS Blood and Transplant said that stocks of all blood groups are healthy and the letter was only to guarantee that this remains so.

Blood donations in the area have increased in recent months, she added.
