Bar will be fruit of Biggleswade salon’s labours
MBCH- 25-01-12- Juice Bar. Lee Belcher & Annette Inkersole are hoping to open a new juice bar on the ground floor of House of Hair, High St ,Biggleswade.
A NEW side to a hair-dressing salon could prove to be juice what customers have always wanted.
Lee Belcher, who runs the House of Hair salon in Biggleswade High Street is hoping to open a juice bar on the ground floor.
Lee – who also runs the House of Aqua fish spa opposite the salon – has submitted a planning application to Central Bedfordshire Council to convert his premises.
If approved the move would mean customers could enjoy a glass of juice, smoothie, milkshake or yoghurt while they are waiting for their hair appointment.
Juice bar-only customers would also be welcome too.
Lee, 28, said: “The current downstairs salon would be moved to the first floor, in a room which is next to the one where we currently do the colouring for customers.
“Downstairs we already have the structure and facilities in place to set up a juice bar, as there are sinks of course and also a section which will be easy to convert into a bar.”
The juices, milkshakes, smoothies and yoghurts will be supplied by wholesalers Projuice, who specialise in products for juice bars and cafes.
Lee added: “Everything that is supplied is pre-made and is pre-frozen, so all we have to do is put the item in the blender and add some extra cordial where necessary.
“House of Hair customers would be able to use the juice bar but it will also be open to anyone who wants to come in, and the products can be taken away as well.”
Lee – who also runs another branch of House of Hair in St Neots – decided he wanted to convert the salon when he saw what other similar businesses have done elsewhere.
He said: “It has become quite popular for salon owners to open juice bars as part of their premises.
“It is a craze which you can see at salons in cities like London and Nottingham and in other towns too, and at the moment there aren’t any other juice bars in Biggleswade.
“There’s certainly a gap in the market.”
At a meeting of Biggleswade Town Council on Tuesday councillors agreed to approve the application. It will now go to Central Bedfordshire Council for consideration.
Experienced hairdresser Lee has also worked as an educator and trainer for Hair Contrast UK, the national arm of the former Nordic Hair Contrast firm.
