Biggleswade pub is put up for sale
A FORMER pub and wine bar has closed and is being sold, a company has confirmed.
The Brown Bear in Hitchin Street, Biggleswade has been put on the market by Admiral Taverns.
The pub, which had traded as The Brown Bear since 1995 was previously run as The Grape Escape wine bar and restaurant.
The building previously housed Mrs Eley’s Wool Shop until 1978 when Michael Hayward applied for a wine bar licence there.
By the late 1980s the business had developed into a fully-fledged Whitbread public house which was known as Smithy’s.
