Books will be the theme of this year’s Biggleswade Carnival, it has been confirmed.

With just three months to go until the annual extravaganza, organisers are putting plans in place for this year’s event.

This year’s carnival parade will take place on Saturday, June 22.

Those who put together their own floats to join the colourful parade around the town centre can design them on the theme of their favourite book or books.

Organisers opted for this theme as they are confident it will appeal to participants of all ages and interests.

Carnival treasurer Susan McNeill said: “It is quite a broad theme and we felt it would make the carnival and the floats accessible for people from all walks of life.

“We are looking forward to seeing some bright and spectacular floats!”

The parade of floats is also an important fundraising event as walkers collect cash in buckets as the procession moves through the town.

As well as the parade there will also be a variety of othe events for adults and children alike. The Biggleswade Working Men’s Club will be the venue for many of these.

Activities at the club will include the Darts Night, where would-be Phil Taylors can step up to the oche and try their luck against rivals from around the area.

The annual Race Night is also always a popular fixture at the club, where punters can enjoy the racing with a bar and disco to follow.

There will also be quiz, crib and bingo nights too.

One of the main highlights of the Biggleswade Carnival calendar is the Duck Race.

This takes place by the Rivel Ivel close to the Dan Albone car park.

The event sees families from across Chronicle Country buying plastic ducks and racing them on the river.

Large crowds gather for the race and there are always prizes available for winners. The event is held at the height of summer so the weather is normally hot and sunny.

Carnival organisers are now accepting entries for floats in the parade.

If you have any queries about entering a float please contact Diane Underwood on 07806 636021 after 7pm.
