Bus will stop at reserve’s entrance
NOW it’s easier than ever to get to the RSPB headquarters.
From Monday (January 30) the 188 Centrebus service will stop directly outside The Lodge shop.
The service runs between Hitchin, Biggleswade and Sandy on Mondays to Saturdays. Travellers on First Capital Connect’s train services from Kings Cross and Peterborough will now be able to catch the bus from Sandy station to The Lodge.
Mark Brandon, RSPB’s visitor manager at The Lodge, said: “We are delighted that Central Beds Council and Centrebus have put The Lodge on the 188 service and having a bus stop inside the reserve entrance will allow visitors a safe and easy way to reach us directly.
“We have always encouraged visitors to use public transport, particularly the train, but now there is a great option to make the journey from local villages and towns along the route, straight to the reserve.”
David Shelley, commercial director for Centrebus added: “I am very pleased that we are able to properly serve RSPB The Lodge with our buses and provide direct public transport access to the site for people from Sandy, Biggleswade and Hitchin.
“It’s a great way of encouraging access to the reserve in a way that is itself environmentally sound. The buses we use on the 188 are low floor, accessible to all, and we very much look forward to welcoming new people from across Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire”.
