A card shop in Chronicle Country has been given an award.
The Gorgeous Gift and Card Company in Biggleswade won the gong for Best Independent Greeting Card Retailer – Home Counties at a glittering award ceremony.
Owner Sarah Marsh found out she was a winner of this year’s greeting card retailing awards – known as The Retas – at a ceremony at the London Dorchester Hotel attended by almost 400 people.
The event was hosted by celebrity and comedian Rob Deering.
Sarah said: “I was very surprised but very pleased obviously.”
Sarah has been running the shop for six years. Previously she worked as a florist and then as a gift buyer for two garden centres.
She added: “I thought ‘I’m going to do this for myself’.
“It has been a rollercoaster of a ride and I still love it. I have some amazing customers and I still really enjoy it.”
The Georgeous Gift and Card Company, which is located in The Saxon Centre, was previously nominated for a Retas award in its second year, and made it through to the final stage.
The Retas awards, launched in 2005 by Progressive Greetings Worldwide magazine, recognise excellence across the whole greeting cards retailing spectrum.
More than 2,000 Retas forms were distributed to UK greeting card publishers, who nominated the retailers that they felt to be the worthy winners in each category.
