High steaks for business at these finals
Andrew and Helen
A FAMILY business has won the regional final of a foundation’s annual awards.
Woburn Country Foods in Haynes was successful in the butcher category of the Countryside Alliance’s Rural Oscars award scheme for the company’s work during 2011.
Helen Rallie-Davies, who runs the business alongside her father, Andrew Davies, said: “We were really pleased to have been nominated in the first place which is flattering enough and now to have been through the process of being assessed and judged to come out ahead is fantastic.
“We are the only ones to have a co-operative of 15 farmers. We are a hub for them and it makes their jobs easier because they don’t have to find the customers.
“We do all the cutting and selling and marketing. The judges were very keen on that idea.”
They will be up against nine other entries when the awards are announced at a lunch in the House of Lords on Wednesday, March 7.
Garden Friends Farm Shop in Roxton, which was nominated in the local food category, did not get through to the next round. But owner, Val Howson, said she was delighted to have got so far.
