It’s a whole new chapter for Biggleswade outlet

A TOWN premises has officially started a new chapter – as a new bookshop starts to trade there.

Susie’s Bookstore is now open in the alleyway that links Biggleswade market square and Bonds Lane, close to the New Inn pub.

Owners Andy and Susie Speary decided to open the shop after previously running a book store in Letchworth.

Susie, 49, said: “We opened our previous shop in Letchworth three years or so ago but as time has gone on more bookshops have opened there so there is a lot more competition in the town now.

“We did some research online to find a town where there weren’t any bookshops and when Biggleswade came up we noticed that the only one here was Bookworms which closed down three years ago.”

When the couple visited two weeks ago they decided that they wanted to lease the premises straight away, Susie said.

She added: “We came over to have a look and just fell in love with the place immediately.”

The shop opened on Thursday last week (November 10) and had a launch party on Saturday (November 12).

Susie and Andy aim to offer low prices and all hardback fiction books will be £4, while most of the other books will sell for half of the recommended retail price.

DVDs are also available at the shop and will be sold for £1 each.

The store will also sell children’s books.
